Mold Assembly: Multiple patterns are attached to a central wax gating system to form a cluster or tree-like structure, known as a "sprue." The sprue allows for the flow of molten metal into the mold.
Ceramic Shell Building: The pattern assembly is dipped in a ceramic slurry and coated with a fine ceramic material called "investment." This process is repeated several times, alternating between dipping and coating, to build up a robust ceramic shell around the pattern.
Dewaxing: The ceramic shell with the embedded patterns is heated to melt and remove the wax or other pattern material, leaving behind cavities in the ceramic shell.
Preheating: The ceramic shells are preheated to remove any remaining moisture and to prepare them for the metal casting process.
Metal Casting: The preheated ceramic shells are filled with molten metal, such as aluminum, brass, or steel, typically through gravity pouring or vacuum-assisted techniques.
Cooling and Solidification: The filled ceramic shells are allowed to cool and solidify, transforming the molten metal into a solid form.
Shell Removal and Finishing: The ceramic shell is broken or removed from the metal casting, often through mechanical means like vibration or sandblasting. The casting is then subjected to finishing processes such as cutting off the gating system, grinding, machining, and surface treatments as required.
