6 gate design principles in investment casting production of stainless steel products
1 : The gate design must ensure the principle of sequential solidification. In other words, the final solidification of the casting is the gate. Because it is impossible for any product design to achieve the same thickness, the gate must be designed where the wall thickness is large when designing the gate. If there are several hot nodes on the product, several gates may be designed. The advantage of investment casting, which is different from other casting methods, is that it can design the gate at will, and then achieve the purpose by wax welding.
2 : The gate design adopts the principle of cold end effect. Some product designs do not necessarily conform to the principle of sequential solidification, and perhaps designers simply do not understand the principle of casting. At this time, the principle of cold end effect may be used. It is said that designing the gate in a thick place may not take care of all the places, so simply keep the gate away from it and let that part be cold first to solve the problem in other parts of the product.
3 : the principle of scattered gates. For products with uniform wall thickness, the gate design must adopt the principle of dispersion, and try not to concentrate the heat, so as not to cause deformation and other defects. Especially for round products, the gate design should be singular instead of double.
4 : the design of the gate length. The gate length is a contradiction between heat dissipation and feeding. The gate is long, the heat dissipation is good, but the feeding is insufficient; the gate is short, the feeding is good but the heat dissipation is not good, the compromise between these depends on experience.
5 : The gate design should try to avoid the places where the mold shell is thick or the mold shell is blocked, because these places are not good for heat dissipation, which will affect the feeding effect of the gate.
6 : Gate design should be combined with product requirements. For products with different requirements, such as: density requirements, or internal organization requirements, etc., the gate design location and size are also different.
